WHAT JESUS FOUND IN A TREE
Jesus and his friends were walking down the street of a large city one day.
Presently they came to a sycamore-tree. Here Jesus stopped, and, looking up,
he saw something through the thick leaves. He knew what it was, and he said,
"Zacch1us, come down."
There was a rustle among the leaves, and in a moment a man came sliding
down the tree-trunk. This man was Zacchaeus. He was a rich man. He had never
seen Jesus before. But he had heard many things about Jesus, and now he wanted
very much to see him. News had come to the city that Jesus would pass that
way. And Zacchaeus had run out with the other folk to catch a glimpse of him.
But Zacchaeus was a very small man. He feared he would not be able to see
Jesus at all. So he had run ahead and climbed the tree, hoping Jesus would
pass that way.
Jesus knew all about Zacchaeus. He knew how eager this small man was to see
him. So he said, "I am going to visit you today, Zacchaeus." Zacchaeus knew
Jesus was great and good. He welcomed him to his home. He treated Jesus very
kindly. And Jesus brought a blessing to his home. He brought peace and joy to
the heart of this little man who had climbed a tree on purpose to see him.
